Letters to Icarus
Contemplation, research, romance? What might take place on the Moon's far side when Brother David and Sister Helen take up their religious/scientific postings?
Letters to Icarus is now available
in multiple formats.
The Opening Chapter
LETTER FROM PACA.
Per your request, we attach the following documents, made available to us by the Benedictine Sisters of the
Icarus Monastery. Regrettably, the record is very one-sided. With a single exception, the only surviving e-mails belong to Dr. Henderson (aka Brother David). The last document is the transcript of Brother David’s final audio file.
In an interview, Sister Patenaud offered no explanation for the disappearance of her emails, stating only that she felt no need to keep the originals. Despite instructions from her mother superior, the interviewee was uncooperative when pressed for details. She argued that the emails were never meant to be shared or archived and that she and Dr. Henderson had a relationship akin to priest and confessor.
In any case, to a large extent, Sister Patenaud’s responses can be inferred in follow-up emails from Dr. Henderson. The fact that Dr. Henderson’s emails still exist is a happy accident. It seems Sister Patenaud was unclear about the procedure for deleting them.
We appreciate your interest in this case and are not without hope that your careful rereading of the documents will shed further light on the unfortunate incidents of last October.
Currently, Daedalus Station remains unmanned, and the Jesuits show no interest in sending up further recruits. We are exploring our options.
Sincerely,
Dr. M. J. Parsons
Executive Director for the Protected Antipodal Circle Authority
