I live in one of the world’s true Shangri-Las, tucked away in the little mountain town of Nelson, British Columbia. My wife and I have two grown children: one an actor, the other a musician. The family joke is that, between the four of us, we share not a single money-making gene.
My writing pursuits have been forged largely in the fires of live theatre where, for thirty years, I have participated as an actor, director and playwright. Four of my stage plays have been produced locally and one in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
Over the years I have produced more than a dozen original radio dramas plus radio adaptations of famous classical scripts like Oedipus Rex and Macbeth. Such fun! Really, there is nothing more rewarding than doing live radio drama. Try it, you'll love it!
All of my radio dramas were broadcast locally on Kootenay Co-op Radio. A few received additional airing on NPR stations in Minneapolis and Santa Fe (407 Arachne, The Chat and The Non-Resident) 407 Arachne, produced in 1999 by Minneapolis’s Jerry Stearns, won the Mark Time Award which is given annually to the best work of science fiction in audio drama. Three other audio scripts of mine can be found in MRTW/NAFT script books.
In recent years I have focused my attention more and more on writing fiction. My short stories and poetry can be found in a variety of publications (Winners’ Circle 8 & 9, Open Window IV, Oval Victory, Horsefly, the Elephant Mountain Review and The New Orphic Review). My story Sun Dancer won the 2009 Okanagan short story contest. In 2011 Badlands won the fiction prize in the Kootenay Literary Competition. In 2018 my short story Past Due won the Tisdale Writing Group prize for fiction.
In 2013 my novella, Eta Carinae, was published as an e-book by Vagabondage Press and is available online through Amazon, Barnes & Noble etc. My short story Black Friday can be found on the Strange Fictions website. Hot off the presses is my second novella, Echoes (2022), and my fantasy/sci-fi novel, The Draper Catalogue, both available as e-books or paperbacks.
My novel, Big Ledge, can be found in regional book stores, and is available from Amazon in three different formats. https://www.amazon.com/author/briandeon
My collection of short stories, Loose Ends, is available from Wipf & Stock, or through various online distributors, including Amazon. Use the Wipf & Stock site to order an e-book in the ePub format, compatible with Kobo.
